Architect - Urban Design - Universal Access
IDC Integrated Design Consultants is committed to the creation and design of people-centered environments, focusing strongly on ergonomics and anthropometrics as the foundation for the creation of functional built forms. Moreover, we are determined to achieve and articulate a “South African” architecture that is derived from place and the critical interpretation of vernacular architectures.

The design of functional spaces based on a sound understanding of anthropometrics and ergonomics is best illustrated by the practice’s continued work and competency in the field of Universal Design, a design paradigm that emphases the creation of environments that are useable by all persons. To this end, we have been intimately involved with the writing of the National Building Regulations, and are involved with several national and international initiatives aimed at improving the quality of the lived environment. Our approach is multi-disciplinary and holistic, embracing not only Architecture, but Urban Design, Interior Planning, Industrial Design, Training, Tourism, Transportation etc.

Our Service

Architecture

Architecture is a passion, a vocation, a calling as well as a science and a business. It has been described as a social art and also an artful science. Architecture must be of the highest quality of design.

Architecture provides a sense of place and support of all types of human activity. Architecture helps the man-made fit in harmony with the environment while promoting health and well-being, enriching lives aesthetically and spiritually, providing economic opportunities, and creating a legacy that reflects and symbolizes culture and traditions.

Our projects range in size and complexity from small alterations, small or large housing, multi-level commercial, industrial, public buildings to even parts of cities.

Urban Design

Urban Design is the practice of shaping the physical features and to make high-quality connections between places and buildings for the enjoyable and safe activity of people. While creating places for people, urban design must respect and enhance the natural environment and use resources efficiently.

We at IDC believe in developing designs derived, but also transcending, from planning and transportation policy, architectural design, development economics, engineering, environment and landscape.

Drawing on these, and other strands, together to create a vision for an area and then deploying the resources and skills needed to bring the vision to life.

Universal Access

Universal Design is design of products and environments to be usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible, without need for adaptation or specialized design.

Universal design is a concept, approach, or goal to make products and the built environment universally usable by all people everywhere. It accommodates the specific needs of the elderly, people with obesity, those who are very tall or very short including children, pregnant women, and people with various functional limitations, which tend to have been traditionally ignored.

Universal design is dependent on the culture of the people who will be using the specific built environment. That is, universal design may be different in each and every country because it is meant to be universally usable in that place.
